Look who joined our office!

We are happy to announce that our office has another team member.  Dr. Taylor's new Havanese puppy, Pepper, has been accompanying him to the office lately.  Born on January 31, 2011, Pepper is about 8 months old and was found through a rescue organization.  He was not treated so well during the first few months of his life, so he is a bit shy around people.  With some time, we are all hoping he will get used to all the "ins and outs" of the office!

Congratulations to Dr. Taylor!

Dr. Taylor was inducted as a Fellow of the International College of Dentists at its 82nd Annual Convocation in Las Vegas on October 10, 2011.

An honorary organization for the recognition of outstanding and meritorious service to the profession and community, the College presented Dr. Taylor with a membership plaque, a gold lapel pin and gold key symbolic of this Fellowship for conspicuous service rendered in the art and science of Dentistry.

In an impressive cap and gown ceremony, almost 300 dentists from the US were inducted into the College at this year's ceremony witnessed by hundreds of members and guests.  The College, with representative chapters in more than 80 countries, has over 11, 000 members, including about 6,500 in the US.

Congrats to Dr. Taylor!

We're back!

Our office has re-opened after our summer vacation week.  The staff is rested after a week off, and we needed it, given a very busy week back!  And, we are down one staff member.  Sadly, Valerie Mooney, our most recently added dental assistant, has moved to Lexington, Kentucky.  Valerie accepted a job with an orthodontic office in Lexington and will be there for at least one year.  While we will miss her very much, Dr. Taylor will be able to keep up with her when she attends NCMOM clinics in the western part of North Carolina.

New packaging for Opalescence

Opalescence is our at home teeth whitening system sold here in our office.  We are happy to share that they announced recently a new, and more convenient, packaging system.  The new system is designed to make it easy to dispense the proper amount into your custom bleaching trays.  Called "Opalescence Oh," it comes with disposable, single unit dose bulbs.  "Oh!" eliminates the guesswork and minimizes wasted gel.

Please contact our office if you are interested!

Our award winning dentist!

Last weekend, April 10, 2011, Dr. Taylor was honored to be presented with not one, but two, prestigious awards at an awards dinner in Raleigh, NC.  The dinner and ceremony marked the conclusion of National Volunteer Week 2011.  Both awards were sponsored by NC MPACT, an organization that is devoted to making access to dental health care a reality in the US and beyond.

The 2011 Lifetime Presidents Call to Service award was the first honor Dr. Taylor received, which acknowledges individuals that have given at least 4,000 hours of voluntary service throughout their lifetime. It is the nation's highest honor for volunteer service.  For Dr. Taylor this includes charity dental clinics, Angel Flights, Young Eagles, and mentoring groups.

His second honor was the 2011 MPACT Excellence Award which is an award to acknowledge excellence in providing dental care to those in need.  Dr. Taylor has a strong passion for volunteering, especially at charity dental clinics, such as the NCMOM clinics throughout the state.

Congratulations Dr. Taylor!

The Virginia clinic

Over the weekend, Dr. Taylor and our very own dental assistant, Valerie Mooney, volunteered in Roanoke, Virginia at a charity dental clinic.  They returned Saturday after seeing an outstanding 1,002 patients in two days!  These clinics bring much needed dental care to the lower income community in North and South Carolina.  For more information regarding the Virginia clinic, please see this article in the Roanoke Times.

Dr. Taylor's next NCMOM clinic is scheduled for April 15th and 16th in New London, NC.

Our resident Disney expert is back!

Many of you are familiar with one of our hygienists, Donald McGinnis.  What you may not be aware of is Donald's expertise in travel to Walt Disney World.  Donald and his family have made  many  Disney trips, the most recent being just last week!   He and his family spent Spring Break in sunny Orlando, while we suffered through sleet one day and below average temperatures the rest of the days!

Donald has shared that he and his little boys, ages six and three LOVE the thrill of roller coasters!  So, if you are in the office and need any Disney travel advice, please feel free to stop and chat with our resident Disney expert!

NC Missions of Mercy

For several years now, Dr. Taylor has donated his time and energy to an organization called North Carolina Missions of Mercy (NCMOM), even serving on its board of directors.  This organization is a portable free dental program through the NC Dental Society.  The program is sponsored by the NC Dental Health Fund (a 501 (c) (3) tax exempt organization).  The goal is "to provide free dental care to as many under served persons within North Carolina as possible and involve as much of the dental community of the state in the treatment of the under served as possible."  The NCMOM program is a grassroots effort, dependent on volunteers, with funding from grants and donations.  Since its beginning in 2003 the program has received national and statewide recognition.

You can read more about the NCMOM program here.

The next NCMOM clinic where Dr. Taylor will be volunteering will be this weekend, March 25th and 26th in Weldon, NC.  The clinic will be located at Halifax Community College 101 College Drive, Weldon.

In the news!

Recently our office received an email that we thought we might share.  The New Bern Sun Journal newspaper featured our very own Dr. Taylor and Valerie Mooney (one of our dental assistants) while volunteering at the NCMOM clinic there.

You can read more about the article here.
